Our Story

“I built a pillow for couples… and it accidentally became the best solo cuddle pillow on the market.”

How it started

In 2017, my fiancé (now wife), Kate, and I were returning home from a volunteer dental mission in Guatemala when our taxi was struck by a vehicle running a red light.

From Accident to Obsession

Kate’s leg was shattered. My ankle was fractured.

Recovery was slow. Physical. Emotional.

I moved a bed into our living room and our days became simple — healing, resting, watching movies together.

When Kate was finally able to lie on her side again, we started spooning while we watched. It felt close. Safe. Normal again.

But I couldn’t stay comfortable.

No matter how I stacked or folded the pillows, my neck kinked, my shoulder collapsed, my arm fell asleep. Movie night turned into a constant shuffle of adjustments.

There was no solution on the market.

The Inventors journey

So I did what any stubborn and slightly unhinged guy would do.

I started cutting and gluing pillows together. When I returned to work, I realized almost everyone had the same problem. Kinked necks. Crushed shoulders. Dead arms. Couples shifting every twenty minutes.

I began developing the idea seriously. I sewed my own covers. I revised prototypes. I studied support angles. I refined dimensions. I eventually filed utility patents in Canada and the United States, along with “design protection” and trademarks.

The design you see today is the result of years of iteration and failures.

It evolved from something scrappy and handmade into a purpose-built ergonomic support system.

And somewhere along the way, it earned its name:

The Big Spoon Pillow.

More than a Pillow

Anyone who tried early versions loved it.

People of all ages. Couples. Solo binge-watchers. New parents. Even skeptics.

My 73-year-old father’s first reaction?

“It’s too high. I’d rather have no pillow at all.”

But the smile on my mother’s face told me everything I needed to know.

There’s something powerful about building something of your own and asking your father to try it. About creating something that brings people closer — literally.

Creating Space for Connection.

Over the years, the pillow evolved. So did our life.

Kate and I got married. We had children. Our evenings became busier. Sometimes we looked like the couple watching TV from opposite ends of the couch.

And that’s when I realized something important:

Closeness doesn’t just happen. It takes intention.

The Big Spoon Pillow isn’t magic. It’s a tool — like date night, candles, or simply choosing to sit a little closer.

Built for Two, Perfect for One.

What started as a way to heal together became something bigger.

Before kids, it was movie nights.

With children, it became our way to reconnect.

And as I used it on my own, I realized something else:

It might be the most comfortable way to watch TV — period.

Made to Last

I designed the Big Spoon to be:

  • Structurally supportive
  • Durable
  • Patent-protected
  • Made with quality materials
  • Built for years of enjoyment

This product represents years of work, risk, learning, and belief- most of all, belief from Kate and from strangers who tried it and said, “This is actually brilliant.”

If it brings comfort and connection into your life, even for one evening, every late night, and every setback was worth it.Thank you for being here

Happy cuddles,
